This is a program to batch convert 24 bit bitmaps into 256 color ( 8 bit ) bitmaps in the 50500 Aok palette.
To run, extract the zip and click ImageConverter.bat. Put your input bitmaps in the inputdir folder and it will convert and place them in outputdir.
You need to have java installed on your computer to run it. You can get it from Sun Java's website.

(Download JRE because that's a lot smaller download) |

It works good, and it´s easy to use!
I always just open the file I want to convert with MS Paint and than "save as" 256 color bitmap.
But if you don't have MS Paint or don't know how. This is easy way to convert and everyone understands it.[Edited on 03/27/11 @ 04:38 PM]

Hmmm, you mentioned IrfanView in your first comment but then edited it. Huh...
Irfanview can also batchconvert, but it doesn't put it in the correct palette as far as I can tell.
Anyway the earlier download had a totally incorrect palette file! Please redownload if you have already downloaded.
Also added dithering and high quality options |

Saving as 256 with paint doesn't actually save to the correct 256 palette, for the previous commentor.
You have to paste your bitmap into an existing AoK bitmap if the only program you have is MS Paint. I'm going to give this a shot and then a review, so I'll compare this a lot more when I have used it. |

Often when sharing units or entire folders with team members in a modding project, I've felt the need to recursively convert all the bmps present in all the folders in 'inputdir'. The output should also reproduce the same folder structure in 'outputdir'.
You can achieve this by replacing lines 425-434 with a loop that calls the load and save bitmap functions recursively through the directories.[Edited on 06/27/11 @ 12:12 PM]

I'll think about that. In the meantime if you can, make the changes yourself, email me the file and I'll update it ( giving credit ofc ), because at the moment I don't have a computer at home. Thx. |

Hi, i fanally found a palette converter! Your program could be improved to convert 8 bit to 8 bit at the proper AOK/AOC palette nor just the 24 bit.
Well i wanted some programm that can extract the alpha and beta graphics without messing the graphics. Unfortunately Turttle Pac doesn't do the job, after that i'll be able to adapt to AOK palette :(
It's usefull for new images.[Edited on 07/25/16 @ 11:42 AM]
