Advanced Genie Editor
for Age of Empires, Rise of Rome (including DE), Age of Kings, The Conquerors (including DE), Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds and Clone Campaigns.
This is a program for editing data of genie (DAT and DLL) files. It can edit properties of units, civilizations, technologies, graphics, terrains, sounds, player colors and some other things.
Please, ask questions on the forums.

Notes
Make your own backups or use the auto-backup feature!
Extract to anywhere and run. No help files are included.
You may need to run the program as administrator if your game is installed in a protected folder.
You may be able to undo changes by going back to the text box and pressing Ctrl + Z.
Tips
You can have multiple search entries separated with "|" letter.
Upper search boxes are inclusive and lower ones exclusive.
Example: "tower|ship|ram"
Use the check boxes to toggle matching between all and any entries.

A) You can just type them in. To make them have a name in the lists look for file created named AGE3NamesV0004.ini and inside it values below [AoE2Names] for example.
B) You can just add new ones. To make them have a name in the lists, do same as above, but look for [AoKCivResNames] for example.
C) You can just type them in, but they will not work until you generate or acquire an executable of the game with the new attributes handled in it. |

I tried A and it doesn't work for numbers after 30. It works well for numbers below 30. I can help you with all the heavy lifting, ie searching which attribute number is for what attribute and what armor class number is for what armor class. It would be great if it is directly added in the editor for everyone to access. |

Have you also edited the AoE2Count=31, if you're editing them for Age of Empires II? There is no need to have a name displayed for it to work though.
All of the attributes (of technology effects that change unit data) should be known and listed in this editor.
There might be some definitive edition armor classes that are not yet named correclty by default. |

The copy and paste buttons in Terrain Tables (ones on the right) are completely nonfunctional atm. Please take a look into this when you have the time :)
edit: I'll take the opportunity to ask if there are any plans to include previewing sounds and graphics (wem/smx) for DE in the future. This is the only feature I really notice the lack of when using the tool, otherwise it's a 11/10![Edited on 04/30/21 @ 11:27 AM]

Was there ever a version where those buttons worked? I see a mistake in the logic, but it seems to have been broken for years, unless the part that made it functional was written into obscure source file.
I have no plans to add support for playing wem files. It appears to be quite complicated task.
SMX files should already be readable and visible in SLP window. Let me know if you have any issues viewing them. |

I've no idea if they ever worked as I've only began modding recently, and immediately noticed its lack of functionality.
Understandable.
I actually never managed to preview DE graphics in the SLP viewer. I only ever get either "No frames", "No sprite -" or "No sprites associated with -". Substitute the dash with the file info
edit: when previewing icons exclusive to DE, I get "!SLP/frame". Otherwise they default to Conquerors icons[Edited on 04/30/21 @ 09:50 PM]

All right. I'll investigate that and release a fix then.
Do you have Steam, discord or something else for instant messaging? It could help seeing a screenshot from your open files dialog, for example. |
