Advanced Genie Editor
for Age of Empires, Rise of Rome (including DE), Age of Kings, The Conquerors (including DE), Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds and Clone Campaigns.
This is a program for editing data of genie (DAT and DLL) files. It can edit properties of units, civilizations, technologies, graphics, terrains, sounds, player colors and some other things.
Please, ask questions on the forums.
Check out this program also. It's for graphical modding.

Notes
Make your own backups or use the auto-backup feature!
Extract to anywhere and run. No help files are included.
You may need to run the program as administrator if your game is installed in a protected folder.
You may be able to undo changes by going back to the text box and pressing Ctrl + Z.
Tips
You can have multiple search entries separated with "|" letter.
Upper search boxes are inclusive and lower ones exclusive.
Example: "tower|ship|ram"
Use the check boxes to toggle matching between all and any entries.

It seems that you can only do that with gold mines in AoE 1. Using resource 47. Or maybe that is a global productivity resource? Try setting resource 47 to 2 for some civ using techs. |

I figured something out. If you go to "Commands" (for the Hunter unit), and look at the two "Hunt" abilities, you'll see "Productivity Resource." I set this to 18 (which is "Unknown" in AoE/RoR) and then used a tech to change the value of Resource 18, so animals are more productive for this civ. :) |

That is very clever! Took me a while to understand. You could also have added more resources and use them instead of using an existing resource. |

I have to ask one thing from you that I can't understand how to use it but I want to learn them because this utility is superb in every manner but I can't use it so it would be useless for me so I request you to send some screen shots about how to add new units to specific civilizations that other civilizations can not use. Thank you. |

You add unit like any unit, choose "No research" as 0, so you have to make a research-tech pair to enable the unit. You can take a look at existing unique units for research-tech pairs. Make sure you set the civilization of the research to what you want.
1. Copy existing unique unit that is closest to the unit kind you want.
2. Add + paste that unit into new slot.
3. Set it to require research from "attributes" section of unit tab.
4. Copy+add+paste research-tech pair of closest related unique unit.
5. Set proper civilization for the research.
Think a bit, a bit more, and then you understand. |

for about a week ago, the game has been updated by Steam. and well, for some reason have they removed the empires2_x1_p1.dat file from the data folder inside steamApps/Common/Age2HD. so I cant look inside the file. does anyone know where the file has gone, the game still runs like a charm so the file must be somewhere. |

Hi !
The link to forum topic seems to be dead, and so does my bookmark :(
A small new information:
in Unit commands, unknown2 is a terrainID for transport boats.
I think this defines a terrain on which the transport can ALWAYS unload (but it's not very clear to me yet, just guessing...)
In fact it must be analog to unitId and classId, it's a terrain on which the command always applies, or something like that. But this is probably used only for transports...
