Current Version (date-time) DirectDrawFix 20130101-154045
Introduction
Windows Vista and Windows 7 break color compatibility with certain applications that depend upon palette-based, 256-color graphics. Due to changes to DirectX and DirectDraw, the colors of these applications and games may appear distorted under these newer operating systems. This issue applies to both The Age of Kings and The Conquerors Expansion.
DirectDrawFix will allow you to resolve this specific issue by applying required compatibility fixes to the registry. Elevation is required for this application to perform its updates. Windows XP and earlier operating systems are already compatible and do not require this update.
System Requirements
Windows Vista or later operating system
Elevated user account privileges
Hi! Yeah, this is the best palette fix. I did one for myself too, and I'm glad to see that other people know about it too.
It's also good that it isn't only attached to one executable, it automates the job of searching the ID and editing the registry for you just in one click! Awesome.
By the way, a DWORD can be used for the ID field too. :) the binary isn't obligated.

You're right that REG_DWORD can be used, however all existing entries use REG_BINARY, so, for consistency, I opted for that. Thanks!

I still see the colour issues in the fog of war if the resolution is the middle one or higher :(

That's a separate issue, which is sometimes caused by your monitor/screen performing some kind of widescreen scaling/stretching. Please try to adjust the settings on your monitor. I hope you are able to resolve the issue.

I'm really sorry to bother everyone with this, I know I shouldn't but I can't find the answer anywhere: Where do I extract this file to once I download it? Sorry for being a noob.

I don't think it makes any difference where you extract it, you only need to run it once.
