A GOOD Helm's Deep scenario, you'll enjoy. Lots of units, so slower computers should stay away.
*NOT a grass 1 map, lots of eye candy.
*almost 1000 units
*you control the whole fortress, not just the heroes, *challenging
*better than any HD scenario I've played yet.
Please Try it today, And Enjoy! |

A Good Helms Deep by King Bob VI is an attempt to create a good Helms Deep map. Most Helms Deep maps, and Lord of the Rings maps for that matter, are not very good. This one improves slightly on other Lord of the Rings scenarios.
Playability: The map is fun, except that the scenario lags terribly, because there are over 1000 units moving or fighting. Otherwise, the map is fun. The Longbow men slaughter Orcs at a fast pace, and corpses pile up quickly.
Suggestions: Rather than have a horde of weak units, cut down on the number of enemies, but make them stronger so the game will lag less.
Balance: The second flaw is balance. The map is surprisingly easy. The only objective that gave me trouble was keeping Aragorn alive, but I developed an easy solution for this. All the player has to do is hide Aragorn in the castle. Another issue is that the Orcs can break through two sets of walls and destroy most of the player’s base, only to be stopped by the keep, which was loaded with 15 longbow men, villagers, and my king.
Suggestions: Give the orcs some siege ongars and trebuchets, which will make defending the castle harder.
Creativity: The map features a few creative elements, such as the player gaining control of the Riders of Rohan after a certain amount of time, or letting the player train additional forces. Creative additions might include surprise reinforcements of the Orcish army, or having the Riders of Rohan charge onto the battle rather than immediately join the side of the player.
Suggestions: Discussed above.
Map Design: The map was surprisingly well designed, but unfortunately, most players will be to busy defending the city to notice the map. Good map design elements include: the muddy path along the wall of Helms Deep, and a nicely designed exterior immediately outside Helms Deep.
Suggestions: Add a bit more Eye Candy, for ideas download various Eye-candy utilities from the Blacksmith.
Story/Instructions: The map includes a bit about the battle of Helms Deep, and instructions. This is technically a four.
Suggestions: none
Overall: Better than most renditions of Helms Deep. The author expressed creativity and overall skill in the scenario. |
