I thought this campaign was very unrealistic.
Since I'm Dutch myself, I immediatley downloaded this one!
But the history in the scenarios doesn't fit in with real history, while the war between the Spanish and Dutch was a great event.
I really missed Willem van Oranje, who is the first one to be placed in these scenarios ofcourse!
And the VOC (united east-indische compagne) was in this campaign situated in Africa, not at all in Indonesia.
As far as I know, there never were skirmishes between Dutch and Spanish in America, but I could be wrong.
The scenarios play as random maps, with a theme, so I think the creator doesn't know how to usem triggers.
The map looks good, I think, but it's the storyline that needs to be changed a bit.
You didn't even had to place the campaign partially in Africa and America, for the war here, in the Netherlands, was much more exciting!
That would be enough to create a whole campaign!
The siege of Haarlem, Den Briel (op 1 april verloor Alva zijn bril), the cities who abruptly started following Willem van Oranje and the Geuzen.
But if you like random maps with a story, this is the campaign for you! |

so there are dutch on this site!
I'm dutch too.
indeed, derfel, there weren't any skirmishes in america, for the dutch were at brazil and in new-york(portuguese and british territory)
after the war,for it was started with the search of new routes to the indies.
the voc came to the indies(forgotten the name of the explorer)and the war was hardening.
I don't want to sound like a historian, for they are hated on my college:( |

It was a very good game. It's doesn't matter to me if it's not historically accurate.
Thanks for a good game.[Edited on 05/11/07 @ 05:53 PM]

The games were allright. But it annoyes me that it is absolutely historically incorrect. The games have got nothing to do with the 80-years war (1568-1648). Also, I don't understand why the Dutch were the Turks civ, better choose a European civ to look it more convincing.
Descriptions were not too clear, and at the end, the message 'well done go to the next stage' is a bit easy. Why not an aftermath?
Note, it worked also on the Conquerors. Maybe my comment seems a bit picky, but i am a history student, the historical incorrectness must annoy me ;-)[Edited on 11/13/06 @ 07:00 AM]

It's funny. I personally am not Dutch or Spanish, but downloaded it for the sake of my Dutch friend. It's funny, he seems to spell words like they sound in English, too. Unfortunately, terrible grammar (with the exception of leetspeak) is my biggest pet peeve. If you do not like bad grammar and spelling, don't download this. Even if you don't it isn't the best campaign out there. |
