Here is the enhanced version of the laberinth scenario. You need to copy the .mp3 files in your /sound/scenario folder... and the bitmap on the main AoK folder in order to work.<p> Some of the corrections from the previous scenario include units, sound files, bitmap, and terrain (differences hidden with trees..). I tested this scenario in MODERATE and works fine with the BLACK FOREST type of map... |

"Labyrinth" is a B&D with RPS and FF elements in the beginning. Charles the Hammer wants to conquer the world with his Empire of terror. You have to stop him, but first you must find your way through the labyrinth into unknown land.
PLAYABILITY: This was really enjoyable, great start; you ride for your life through the Empire of terror. The names are well chosen, the .scn file name is Labyrinth of Hell. The fierce attacks from a good variety of units together with the sound files will make you hold your breath, an intense experience. This is followed by searching support in three different areas and you have to be fast as the enemy attacks soon. The map offers various tactics, not only for you but also for your enemy, you can never be sure if your defence stands, you will pause studying your mini map asking yourself how they got there. The scenario kept me busy for some hours, not a boring moment, but too long for my taste, due to a very uneven starting position. 4
BALANCE: The designer said that the scenario was tested with moderate difficulty and I found it very challenging, no desire to try hard or hardest the first time. I had some reloads changing my tactic; it is hard but not unbeatable. You start in the Dark Age with no resources, while your enemy is in Post Imperial with 10'000 of each supply. I mean just 100 woods for a lumber camp and some food would have helped. Still the scenario was well balanced, challenging during the build up, organizing your army, constructing your defence, until you're ready for counterattacks. When I finally attacked the fortification it seemed to take forever to finish, the 10'000 stone were used to construct a forest out of towers. 3
CREATIVITY: One of the best scenario starts I have seen, a very good use of sounds from Star Wars and other sources; also the hints and map design were creative. 4
MAP DESIGN: No elevations other than cliffs, no terrain mix, but the design of the labyrinth is above average for sure. 4
STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: Clear objective, good hints, a BMP showing the save beach you must reach, but only a small story. 4
OVERALL: A very challenging scenario, if you like B&D, terror and panic, Labyrinth is certainly a must have, D/L now.
SUGGESTIONS: No resources for player one and 10'000 for player two is not enough to balance a scenario until the end. Give victory when all military units are defeated or reduce stone to two to three castles and some towers.
IN CLOSING: ~~Always there are, a master and an apprentice~~ |
