Welcome back to the world of Grand Theft Horse.
The French war deserter Guy Josselyne is ready for his third adventure in the fantastic world of pointless violence and dark humor - this time in Definitive Edition.
The story of Grand Theft Horse III takes place directly after Grand Theft Horse 2 - Jihang. The Sons of Yang didn't react positively to Guy leaving Jihang, as they feared he had gained too much valuable information about the organization. The Sons of Yang have chased Guy all the way from Jihang to the far lands of Arlenia, a beautiful but turbulent country in the middle of the Carabelian desert.
There are three main rival gangs in Arlenia - The Vendetta family, the Slav Mafia, and the local rebel alliance Arlenia Liberté. In addition, smaller local gangs are spread out throughout Arlenia. The police department of Arlenia is struggling to keep the peace, and is actively in conflict with the gangs.
Grand Theft Horse III is a free-roaming scenario where every playthrough is different. Unlock new areas by completing story missions, or cause mayhem and play the scenario your way. Do whatever it takes to make your name in the middle of a conflict-torn Arlenia.
Good luck! And remember... respect is everything!

Grand Theft Horse: Arlenia is the third instalment in Madaste’s Grand Theft Horse series, this time made for the Definitive Edition. It is inspired by the Grand Theft Auto video game series, as it is a free roam scenario in which you must acquire as much money as possible in order to leave the city. You can do this by performing many different crimes such by working for gangs and local criminals to perform various tasks and earn rewards.
Playability: 4
Similarly to the previous GTH scenarios, this game is highly enjoyable and full of creativity. The free-roam essence of the scenario means every play though of this game will be different, and therefore the re-playability factor is huge. You’ll have endless fun finding things to do - and there really is so much to do. Beside a couple of odd bugs - which isn’t surprising in a scenario this grand - my one and only complaint is that sheer amount of walking the player must do to get around the city. Even on the fastest horse you can be sent from one corner of the map to another and back for one small task and it can get really irritating. Yes you can do other stuff along the way but it still makes it tedious.
Balance: 5
The scenario was very well balanced. There were in game difficulty settings which determined how much gold you started off with. There are a lot of enemies out to get you; there are rival gang members, angry locals and gangsters that attack you, and when you kill them the police will get angry. The more you kill, the more police will be after you. However you can buy stuff from the IKM which will help like better Armour and Survivor Saver cards to respawn you when you die. I found that the missions were very well balanced. Some of the missions were very easy and didn't take much effort to complete while some will end up with you being close to death and running for your life away from the police.
Creativity: 5
There is no denying that this is a very creative scenario. It’s rare to find a true sandbox style scenario due the insane amount of work it takes to make them work, yet Madaste has done it again. I was concerned that this wasn’t really going to have anything new to offer in comparison to the other two scenarios, but I was wrong. The new assets from DE work wonders and allow for some cool new effects and task. The missions and side quests in the game of creative and have alot of different dynamic to them, each one being unique and individual. The city itself is creative and a lot happens there such as street brawls, gang fights and robberies to name a few. One element that I did love was the damage that hurt my character the longer he stayed in the middle of the desert due to the heat.
Map Design: 4
Arlenia is an extravagant city built within the Carabelian Desert and is therefore a new showcase of design for Madaste. The city is full of live and colour, with its wonderful selection of desert architecture and eye candy. New DE elements and objects have been utilised for great effect, along with some of the beautiful new terrains. The design is far greater in terms of aesthetics than in the previous GTH instalments and shows the author’s designing ability has greatly improved. However, that’s not to say its perfect. There could be a far great use of terrain mixing and building layout within the city as some places look quite barren. There’s also an interesting mix of buildings with some western style buildings placed right next to some Arabian style buildings which creates a weird looking suburb. Elevation has been used better in this map,. But is still lacking in a number of areas, as is some additional eye candy in some of the more barren areas.
Story/Instructions: 4
The scenario starts with a short introduction recapping the events of the previous scenario: Jihang, and explains that our main character Guy has being chased away and found himself in Arlenia, where he must start again. Beyond this there isn;’t really a set story, you just make it your own, depending on the actions you take in the city. The short introduction and conclusion are enough to bookend the story and suit the gameplays needs The instructions are good. They tell you what to do in the main missions you are set. There are also some good hints on places to see and how to make some good money. I think though that sometimes the instructions could improve. Sometimes they were a little tricky to understand and sometimes it wasn't explained properly where you were meant to be going.
Additional Comments:
Overall this is another great instalment into the Grand Theft Horse series and a great opportunity to open the series up for new players with the Definitive Edition.
Thanks
