In this scenario you begin with a handfull of resources and little military power, however you must use whatever you have effectivley, because your enimies are already way ahead of you and could easily vanquish you. What you do have is the advantage of high ground. To win this scenario you must defeat all three enimies, the britons, vikings and a much larger and developed group of celts. |

You are William Wallace, in this scenario,, and have had enough of the Celtic politics. You move a small group out of the city, to higher ground in hopes of building a force strong enough, so you can declare yourself an enemy of the Celts. A turn of events causes you to pick up two more enemies, the Britons and Vikings. both bent on conquering all of Scotland.
PLAYABILITY: It was an enjoyable game with good action and a nice map. The beginning is a little slow going because you have to build your civ from the ground up, and possibly lose some fighting units while trying to protect your town. There are not a whole lot of triggers controlling the enemy armies, so that aspect of the game is unpredictable, and plays out like a random game.
BALANCE: If you send a scout out too early, and are noticed, you will find the balance a bit difficult. I did that on my first try and was creamed. On my second try, I built a small wall across the only passage to my settlement, and saw no action until I came out to fight. When I came up against my first enemy they came out fighting, along with their allies. Overall I found the balance to be easy / moderate, and didn’t have to save very often. There are plenty of resources, which allowed me to keep replacing units at a fast rate. One of the civs could not defend itself properly, because of the map design, and damaged the balance a bit more
CREATIVITY: When I found the graveyard, there was a well-put together scene that gave me a handful of extremely powerful units. Exploring the map was fun in itself, as there are a couple of small surprises to be had. Since the author used the “highlander” as a theme ,, I was a bit puzzled as to why the hero would grow stronger when he defeated a castle , rather than another immortal . I believe that if the hero were to end up fighting the leader of each tribe after defeating his army, it would have added a lot to the creativity, especially when following a popular movie.
MAP DESIGN: The map was well made, and had some eye candy from templates. There are rolling grass hills, and lots of elevation that gave the map a realistic feel of a Scottish countryside. However one of the civs was placed along a narrow parcel of land, without a naval army, and was like a sitting duck when I arrived with my cannon ships. This was more damaging to the balance as it was to the map.
STORY / INSTRUCTION: The story is provided before the game, as are the instructions. There is a little dialogue in the game, which adds a bit to the story, but not much else. I found the instructions could have been improved on little more, and would have boosted the interest level somewhat. (Example) there is an island on the map, which could be overlooked. You have three enemies, and are not sure of who to attack first, or if it matters??
The way the game played out for me,, was enjoyable, and I recommend it. |
