This Campaign is beatable.
Some parts you may have to play on easy. But all and all it is beatable in the end. Plus, the sotryline is pretty cool too. |

I've always been taught that there are much better adjectives than "nice". Once I was even told a story about a thank-you note for a "nice" present, which left those who gave the present offended. But that's all what the "Arthur vs Wallace" campaign is, a nice campaign. Nothing extraordinary, actually approaching mediocre.
Playability: Maybe it's just me, but with the exception of "The Gauntlet", the fourth scenario, (which I REALLY liked), the whole routine of each scenario was rather bland and repeditive.
The one scenario that I truly enjoyed, as I mentioned earlier, was "The Gauntlet", which had a map composed of a long, narrow passage. One was supposed to get the hero from one edge to the other, but here's the catch: there are enemy units galore within the passage, and the hero needs to get to the other side alive.
Story/Instructions was a big disappointment in this campaign. No bitmaps, except in scenario 7, and even that one was rather sucky. The instructions got the message through, and had a bit of story in it, but again, it was bland and lacked the vitality and flavour of the second, "Alexander" campaign.
Balance was average, no more. Easy at times, hard at others, blends defence and offence, but not any more than every scenario should.
Creativity was also rather tasteless. Nothing I haven't seen elsewhere, not anything to write home about... except "The Gauntlet", of course. Then again, that concept was chewed-up again in scenario 5 (with slight modifications), so that was a bummer.
Map design was okay. Some scenarios were random maps with modifications, which was disappointing. There were some interesting inventions, like bamboo in England, a flat Scotland, and Germany and Scotland sharing a border, but as this is a fantasy scenario (William Wallace and Adolf H*tler were allied), I didn't deduct points due to that.
Like the "Alexander" campaign, this campaign featured a user-friendly, self-extracting zip, automating the installation process.
In conclusion, I'd like to repeat my initial opinion; it was a nice, okay campaign, and I don't regret downloading and playing it. I'd also like to add that as I understood, this is Vertigo's first work (the second is the "Alexander" campaign). I really, wholeheartedly think the latter is much better than its' predecessor (except "The Gauntlet" scenario).
However, you never know, maybe you'll like the "Arthur vs. Wallace" campaign more than I did... |

Playability: 2
I am giving you two in playability, because , it is a pretty simple campaign with no fixed style. But it is still a good and playable campaign though. Some more things are that , the campaign has no side side quests and the scenarios are very small. Also , while returning with King Arthur to the base, we have to fight enemy soldiers on the road. As they are on the road, they are surely not the enemies which king Arthur fought against. So how can they know that King Arthur is returning home? The scenarios are very small and the scenarios are very very easy to play ( except one , I will talk about that later), example: in the scenario i was told to kill William's Brother, after killing him and defeating his army , i was left with 200 soldiers. Now let's talk about the scenario in which king Arthur had to cross the jungle with some men. Can you even expect some handful soldiers with a hero to kill many-many powerful heroes? Think about that. Also, you should have given a lot of effort on your campaign and should have renamed the characters and used different enemy heroes.
Balance: 2
The balance is not good. The author of this campaign should have made the balance more good and should have applied more effort. I have given the two points because the author has not provided many resources , but as the enemy is VERY VERY easy to defeat, I .... must give three points less.
Creativity: 1
I am most sorry to say this but the creativity deserves a 0, sorry if this hurts the author. There could have been some side quests, the map could have other players and cities including the locals who might need help, traders, merchants , etc. There could have been at least one ally and one more enemy. The author should work hard on his creativity very much.
Map Design: 1
(The map design deserves a 1 because in all of the scenarios majority of the map is blank , empty and reachable. I am giving 1 point because of the RPG part in the first scenario, otherwise map designing would also be deserving a 0, totally 0. There could also be more cities on the map. There could also be locals on different parts of the map who have several problems. There could have been side quests on the map.
Story/Instructions:
I am giving 1 point to Story/Instructions but the 1 point is deserved by the instructions. I didn't give more points to it becaus the author had only a less than 2-mins effort to give the instructions , and it is not that I like them. I gave the one because of the author's effort on the instructions , which should unfortunately be much much more in order to become the campaign a proper one. The story is awkward and makes no sense. In a scenario where we are told to kill William's Brother there is no William's Brother on the scene and standing is William Wallace. Also in the final scenario we kill William . He comes in another scenario too at the end Now he isn't a ghost that he will come in three scenarios , is he? If the author wanted to repeat the hero unit for all enemy main characters, he could have renamed it in all the scenarios except the one where he wanted to place the original William Wallace. This makes the story REALLY awkward and makes it of no sense. It only deserves a one because of the instructions.
Additional Comments: The campaign overall is a ' OKAY' campaign , but I would gently request the author of the file to work much much much much more harder in his future works. I know he can do it. I am sorry to him if I hurt him much.
