ModPack's Overall Rating: 4.0
Quality (4.25):
This is a GREAT quality graphic (+5.0). It looks realistic and has a Roman feel to it. I'm pleased that you put in a shadow, and it was a well-proportioned one. I really love the way the graphic looks overall.
Although I love the way it looks, it DOES look a little different from the graphics from SOE. On that point, you did lose some points on the fact that it stood out and did not integrate well (-.5). It isn't a kill-all and designers may be able to get around it, but it does stand out just enough where it cannot be easily integrated into an in-game city or town.
I've done a number of reviews for mod packs over my years at AoKH, and one of my pet peeves in mods are misplaced anchors. On that account, you lost some points in this category, although it really only had a small impact on your rating here (-.25) because they were almost there. In your topic post you said "the anchors maybe slightly wrong". Ummmm... then fix them... If you KNOW you have a problem and then you point it out, you should have just fixed it.
Usefulness (4.0):
In this category, I automatically start at a 5.0 and then I take off points for things I found which limit it's usefulness.
This item is nondescript enough where it can be used for numerous things, although it is clearly the Roman Coliseum. It could be a modern sports stadium, a concert hall, a medieval area, or anything else that designers can imagine. I like it in that regard.
You lost points here, as well, because it looks a little different from the graphics from SOE (-1). As I said above, it stands out enough where it cannot be easily integrated into an in-game city or town. I'm not sure how to improve this point. A Roman-era Coliseum just can't blend in with the Medieval time period.
The anchor didn't lose you any more points, here, because I don't think it was that bad. Still, I re-iterate my point that if you know you have a problem, fix it.
General Recommendations:
I don't know if it is possible (I've never found a way), but you may want to look into making the shadow one of the semi-transparent ones (like on the in-game Saracen castle graphics). I thought the black was a little much, myself. Just a thought.
Perhaps it would be batter if you increased the sixe of the coliseum all around, and placed it in the cathedral slot (make it large enough to fill the whole cathedral spot, and watch those anchors). The coliseum was/is a massive structure in Rome, and at it's current size in your modpack it is smaller than the town center. I think making it larger would make it more realistic. Again, just a suggestion.
Closing Comments: Very well done mod. I liked it, and I recommend it to anyone who thinks they can use it in some way. |
