Version: The Conquerors 1.0c
Replace empires2_x1.dat or empires2_x1_p1.dat of
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II\Data
and you will get rid of the limit of 200 people!

Do I need the expansion pack for this?

I just download it and replace the empires.dat file with it?

Yes you do, but back up, copy your original empires.dat first to switch back.

Edit: I moved the file from Utilities.

Altered .DAT files, which are game modifications for the player, go to Mod Packs. If the altered .DAT file is a scenario design tool, a game expansion like Renaissance, it is a utility.

Is there any way to eliminate the population limit without the expansion pack? I really don't want to buy it unless I have to.

Erm, ask them to load the same .DAT files before playing with you.
