Greetings everyone,
I have been trying to figure out the compatibility relations between the fully updated AoE2DE, AoE2HD, and AoC1.0c, mainly so that I can play the awesome custom scenarios in the blacksmith, either on AoE2DE or on AoE2HD (I prefer the former, but I realize that that might be asking too much) on my Windows 10 computer.
I have installed the Compatibility Patch for AoE2HD, which eventually does allow me to play old custom scenarios that need extra files (like sound files or ai files, for instance). In this way, for example, I was able to get the correct custom sound to play in Ingo Van Thiel's "The Quest", a custom scenario that I enjoyed a lot over a decade ago (actually if somebody knows of a way to make such old campaigns compatible with AoE2HD directly and not AoE2HD+CP, please let me know).
There is one issue, which I'm not sure how to fix: at the start of the game, I get an error that the AI file cannot be opened. Pointedly, the "angryboy1.per" file is missing from the AI folder. I must assume that this .per file is part of the CD version, but I cannot find it in my AoE2HD folder (compatibility patch or not). Similar issues have arisen when I try to play other old scenarios: the AI files are missing, causing the whole intended scenario to be ruined.
My question to you is, how can I obtain all the missing AI files from the original game? A cursory Google/Blacksmith search is not amenable to my goals. I will be very grateful for any help! (And I imagine that the resolution of this question will be of great use to many others as well)
PS. Right now I am going through all the new campaigns after the Conquerors expansion in AoE2DE; once I am done with that, I am hoping to eventually get into scenario design as well. This art is very exciting!
