I cannot locate a good place to put this question/problem. I've had Age of Empires for many years (on cd). I thought I would install it on my Windows 10 laptop. It installs, but does not run when attempting to launch the program. I cannot figure out how to get it to run. I've tried the compatibility but no luck. Is there a trick to getting this to work. I really, don't want to have to buy the game yet again. Thanks in advance.

I cannot seem to run userpatch 1.5RC.
I get "Could not initialize graphics system. Make sure your video card and drive are compatible with DirectDraw."

Aoc 1.0c and userpatch 1.3 work fine.
Any userpatch after 1.3 gives this error but 1.5RC will run in windowed mode.

@Jizzbomb I would recommend first completely uninstalling the game, and then making certain you have all the updated drivers for your graphics card. Then I would install the game, install patch C, and then install the latest userpatch (in that order).

If that doesn't work, we probably need to know your computer specs to help narrow down the issue.

@Mharman791 If you go to the following link, the Userpatch is a great piece of software that allows you to be able to play the CD version of AoEII on Windows 10 (it also fixes a bunch of bugs and allows for modern resolutions etc).
