Recently I have decided to restart one of the maps of my "Saga of a Viking Warrior" campaign (which I can't remember who playtested it, since I took a 18 months break from designing...). I have fully recreated the landscape: there are 5 main islands: one for the player, one deserted, and three filled with enemies. But I have lots of unused water space, and so I've decided to put something similar to the "Sea of Worms" (from Vinland Saga). But I don't wanna put that dragon ('cuz I can't draw it), and I wanna be original...
So, here's where you, my fellow forumers, become useful: I want sugestions for a good sea monster to be drawn in water.
Post-Scriptum: don't bother posting a link to the "Sea of Worms Template". I don't want a dragon!

What about a huge octopus? I can imagine avoiding the "flailing" legs (they're not moving, you just pretend there's no gaps between them).
Or mermaids?...
I hear the sound of the jaguar. Is this a bad omen?

Good idea... though the Octopus seems easier to draw...

Great ideas, Bombar. I would have suggested a mermaid but it can be difficult to draw.
"Especially awe-inspiring is the fact that any single brain is made up of atoms that were forged in the hearts of countless stars billions of years ago... These atoms now form a conglomerate – your brain – that can not only ponder the very stars that gave it birth but can also think about its own ability to think and wonder about its own ability to wonder. With the arrival of humans…the universe has suddenly become conscious of itself. This, truly, is the greatest mystery of all." - Rama

Thanks, Surge . But I reckon you could have Scythian Wild women standing on rocks in the sea and draw a ring of different coloured water (shallows, maybe?) around their islands and call that the distance from which you can see them. You could make it very difficult to traverse with them seducing your sailors! (Make a trigger that any ship within the mermaid's range gets sucked towards the rocks where they sink).
The best place to put one would be between two islands, forcing you to sail around a longer way. But if the mermaids are too complicated the octopus can't put you wrong.

Yeat another good idea, lol... and on the longer way around, you could run into a few more "objectives"
Or, to add on to that idea, you could create an ingame mini cutscene where your in a fleet of ships, and the ship at the front actually gets sucked in etc., forcing you to go around
