I don't have Windows 10 and don't plan to get it, but I'd really like to to play the definitive editions of Age I and II. I know Windows 10 is the only official way to play the game, but is there some mod to make it work on Windows 7 or 8.1? Age II HD supports them, so it sounds simple to make this version work with them (so simple, in fact, that Microsoft should have done so...).
Has someone made a mod which makes the definitive edition of Age I playable on Windows 7 and 8? If so, hopefully that works for Age II DE when it comes out.

The games were originally made for Windows 98. However, I'm not sure if any of mods, by nature, have upped those system requirements.

Yeah, I know the original games were made for 98. I originally played it on that. I'm talking about the "HD" or "Definitive" edition that have come out over the past couple years. Age of Empires II HD has a minimum operating system of Windows 7, and the new "definitive" version coming out soon based on that has Windows 10 as the minimum operating system.

Its unlikely Win7 is a old system and dead now.

Maybe get Virtual Box and run win 10 inside it?
