I'm not sure if there are many long termers here (by long termers I mean original Age of Empires 2 fans who were around with its inception) but the game actually had different graphics to what you see in the final game. This version was scrapped, and to be honest with you I find the original graphics quite appealing. I will try and find the original magazine pictures and scan if for you.

Firm believer in micro-management.

At least that graphics combination did give the feel of an european forest IMO.

Edit: On the other hand, it may not have left place for other settings...

Sorry for being AFK for so long. Things have been very busy in my life. I am no longer with my (now prior) employer, so that has been a big distraction in my life.

I am also attempting to do something that we can't talk about but would make everyone here very happy. Yes, *THAT* thing. It's going slower than I would like, but hopefully in the next few weeks I will know for sure if it will happen, or if it is shot down for good. In either case, I will let the community here know the results once they are in. Please keep online discussion and speculation on this one topic to an absolute minimum outside of this thread, as it may negatively affect the chances of a positive outcome. I know you guys are pulling for me. Thanks.

Wow, this is an awesome thread.

I visit this thread at least twice a week, is just so interesting to know how many AOK fans still exist today.

I am indeed quite curious about what the new project is, but for the sake of its success, I'd personally just like to keep my musings to myself. We don't want any rumors to spread.

Matt, I just wanted to say how great it is to see someone from ES who is still so interested in their game and is willing to discuss it with us. We're definitely pulling for you, and I hope your job transition works or worked smoothly.

For anyone interested in the game my brother and I are doing, we took a break from it in order to finish up school work for the term. Now that summer is here, we are thinking about starting up the project again.

I have already started working on mines and a lumber mill as well as starting all the age 2 style buildings. They will be thatch and wood, with some stone. (as opposed to what you all saw on the screens).

We are also trying to work on path finding and elevation which seem to be the two harder challenges, especially when working with XNA.

@ES_MattP I have no idea what you are trying to pull for, but good look with it, I hope it comes to great use/interest in the community!

i personally think that medieval ages were based on sieges, sieges those last for days or weeks or even months...cut the city from resources, let them starve, force them to surrender and then kill, steal, rape and celebrate
I don't know how you are going to add the latter two.
Browser fail maybe?

At first it didn't work for me either. Got some sort of error with too many page views or something like it.

Later it worked however. His text is english, but the site it's on is something like czechian.
