I'm not sure if there are many long termers here (by long termers I mean original Age of Empires 2 fans who were around with its inception) but the game actually had different graphics to what you see in the final game. This version was scrapped, and to be honest with you I find the original graphics quite appealing. I will try and find the original magazine pictures and scan if for you.

Firm believer in micro-management.

@dnwq: Something like this?

That's cheating!

P.S. Guys, please don't post any of this on the Steam Forums for now. Ok?

Didn't you know that you can buy AoE III with expansions in Steam nowadays?

It the pestering of the AoE3 community manager that I want to avoid. People have inundated him with AoK Requests, and at this point they can't do anything.

Hello! I just registered to say thank you (especially Matt) for the great work, and for trying to do something great for the game of my youth. I have had this forum-thread pinned in my browser since the tread was just 1 page long(Been a while ), so I'm not that new on the forums. I'm also stalking scripter64s thread on the "other" forum. Facinating work from the both of you.

Edit: Yeah, AiScript-forum, I do not think they want many more users on the page since it's quite hidden and requires registration...

Maybe this has been mentioned already, but I was wondering if anyone knew if any of these graphics are available in AOE2/TCE or if they can made as a mod for the game?

If you're wanting a modpack with the pregame graphics, this modpack comes pretty close.

It's my turn to ask a question.
Matt, did you ever play and finish the fan made campaigns, especially in the first game? I'm inclined to say that the best of the campaigns and scenario tricks there outdid anything but triggers in AOK. I recall very nice bridges, waterfalls, swamps, and a real fun historical quality one especially where i was playing the mongols in aoe1.
Edit: I believe http://aoe.heavengames.com/dl-php/showfile.php?fileid=1619 was the one. I don't know at this moment since my PC broke down. You could also find a host of amazing design tricks http://aoe.heavengames.com/siege/MapDesign/MapDesignIndex.shtml. Personally my favorite was the bridge.

It's possible to make such bridges in aok too, but it's very time-consuming

The Mongol campaign contest produced top-notch campaigns. My favorite one is Song of the Sung.

Glad you like my bridge

@Local

That was done using an editor mod that unlocked everything off of the Map Grid.

UserPatch can do it too.

Oh, I klnow that you need the special editor for aoe. I hadn;'t known it had been done in AOK too
I can sum up the difference in AOK and AOE eyecandy and tricks as I know them with thus: AOE has a host of interesting objects, while AOK has a host of interesting terrains. if somehow you could give AOK some interesting objects as well, that'd be great

Was there ever talk of having Barbarossa as an ingame hero? I have always wondered why people like King Arthur and Robin Hood were featured, despite there not being a campaign with them and Barbarossa and Saladin are 'missing'. Were those heroes implemented at the designers request?

A thought: Genghis Khan conquers Hungary, William Wallace wins at Falkirk, the Aztecs see off the Conquistadors, Saladin holds Acre, the French see off Burgundians and the English rather than stalling until the Burgundians switch sides, and Christian Spain holds on to Valencia.

So what afflicted Attila so? :P
