Legends of Chila

By oliver

Legends of Chila by oliver is a cinematic scenario that cannot quite be described in words: it must be watched and enjoyed for oneself. It is a powerful, greatly immersive and rapturous cut-scene, one you can watch a dozen times and still find yourself watching in awe as you run it through for the thirteenth time. As one commentator put it, having just watched it: “I feel kinda guilty for not paying for admission and bringing roses to toss to [the author’s] feet.”

It may sound as if I’m hyping this up a tad too much: after all, can an eight-year-old scenario really be that awe-inspiring today, in the age of countless mods, AoK:HD and Forgotten Empires? The answer to that question is an unequivocal and resounding YES. The best creative works do not fade with age: they become classics; and “Legends of Chila” is by now a true AoK classic.

The cinematic follows the two shape-shifters Virgil and Zanath as they return to their ancient, peaceful homeland: they fly across seas, deserts and cold, snowy mountains, until they reach the paradisical rolling green of Chila. But as they arrive to meet Zanath’s beloved Shevariel, they find her farm on fire, and her body lying bloody on the ground. Zanath runs from the scene, screaming.

War and death have come to Chila. An unknown enemy has swept into its lands, destroying everything in its path, wreaking havoc throughout the once unspoiled realm. The towns and keeps of Chila, unprepared for the sudden invasion, fall like grass to the swing of a scythe, and now only one fortress remains: Nea, the fortress of flames. Virgil and Zanath, along with what remains of the armies of Chila, rush to the fortress, only to see the enemy march on its walls.

Legends of Chila was intended to be a longer campaign, but only the prologue ever got released, as was the case with many grand projects from the years 2005-07. Still, the prologue alone is a masterpiece, a ten-minute story that rises and falls with the changes in the song that supports it, or rather, runs through it.

Lauded for its captivating story and pacing, as well as its many brilliant creative features, Legends of Chila is a cinematic scenario you simply mustn’t miss out on. It has been a personal favourite of mine since its initial release in June 2006, and at nearly seven thousands downloads and multiple five-star reviews, it has evidently captured the heart of many watchers! So download it, if you haven’t watched it already; and if you haven’t watched it in a couple years, watch it again! If you, like me, have a pair of good speakers now, as opposed to the crappy $30 hunks of beige plastic you had back in 2006, that alone will bring the cinematic to a whole new level!
