Genie outta the bottle!

That’s the phrase in nandy_abhijit‘s signature tag, and it’s in reference to his goal of creating a game tile engine similar to the Genie game engine that powers the Age of Empires legacy titles, and the Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds games. Originally dubbed Genie2 the project has gone open-source and its project name is now called Prophet.

This project intends to build a 2D isometric tile engine similar to Age Of Kings:The Conquerors but plans to enhance the modding and customization aspects by making the art and settings accessible for editing. The Prophet project is being headed up by nandy_abhijit, and DiGiT of AOK Trigger Studio (AOKTS) fame, and with some other well known community members like Ykkrosh creator of the GeniED2 editor, and Alien_Blood known for his many modpacks stepping in to help, Prophet looks promising.

The project is still in pre-alpha stage, and nandy_abhijit has asked for other programmers to join in his topic thread: Genie2:Initial results for the new engine. This is where my understanding ends, but if any programmers out their would like to work with some of the most talented programmers, and sexiest guys in our community, then here’s the chance!

On October 14, 1066 William the Conqueror successfully invaded England and defeated Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Hastings to win the crown. I’ve chosen this date to begin this new news feature as it was inspired by Marko Crnigoj who released his campaign on the anniversary of the battle some years ago. Also, on this date in 1322, Robert I “The Bruce” King of Scotland was victorious at The Battle of Old Byland. This was a significant encounter between Scots and English troops in Yorkshire, and the most significant since Bannockburn, forming part of the Wars of Scottish Independence. Although, there are no campaigns and scenarios dedicated to this battle there are a few dedicated to the Wars of Scottish Independence.
