About the relics

Relics are very useful for gaining an extra gold, and in standard games, collecting all the relics starts a countdown to victory. But standard games are rare, and in conquest game, the most played ones, collecting many relics ensure you a good gold income. Relics are specially useful for the gold dependent civilizations such as the Turks.

Gold per relic

At each extra relic you put in your monastery, 0.50 more gold is added per second.

For those fellows who don’t want to make the calculation themselves:

Relic Amount Gold/Minute Gold/Second Gold in Seconds
1 relic: 30 Gold/Minute 0.50 Gold/Sec 1 Gold in 2 secs
2 relics: 60 Gold/Minute 1.00 Gold/Sec 1 Gold in 1 sec
3 relics: 90 Gold/Minute 1.50 Gold/Sec 1 Gold in 0.67 secs
4 relics: 120 Gold/Minute 2.00 Gold/Sec 1 Gold in 0.5 secs
5 relics: 150 Gold/Minute 2.50 Gold/Sec 1 Gold in 0.4 secs

Note: These values don’t apply for the aztecs nor teams with an aztec player. Why? Because of …

The Aztec Team Relic Bonus

The Aztec Team Relic Bonus (I’ll call ATRB) gives gold to the player 33% faster, wich means 25% less time. Please note that this bonus is a team bonus, so the whole team is affected. This is the kind of bonus who just can’t be throw in the thrash.

Here’s again the chart; this time with the ATRB included:

Relic Amount Gold/Minute Gold/Second Gold in Seconds
1 relic: 40 Gold/Minute 0.67 Gold/Sec 1 Gold in 1.5 secs
2 relics: 80 Gold/Minute 1.33 Gold/Sec 1 Gold in 0.75 secs
3 relics: 120 Gold/Minute 2.00 Gold/Sec 1 Gold in 0.5 secs
4 relics: 160 Gold/Minute 2.67 Gold/Sec 1 Gold in 0.375 secs
5 relics: 200 Gold/Minute 3.33 Gold/Sec 1 Gold in 0.3 secs

Turbo Random Map Games

(another contribution of our friend iberico)

Turbo Random Map is a Game Type option, only available in The Conquerors patch version (not in 1.0).

In this mode, all buildings work 2.5 times faster except when training economic units (fishing boats, trade ships & carts, villagers).

Consequently, Monasteries produce Gold 2.5 times faster.
So, each Relic produces now: (30 Gold/Minute) * 2.5 = 75 Gold/Minute.

After testing this, we surprisingly find that “Aztec’s Team bonus” doesn’t share this property.
Aztecs & their allies still produce 40 Gold/Minute. (Another Ensemble Studios bug!!).

Tips

  • Wall up the nearby relics, to collect them later:
  • Wall up relics

  • Try to collect as many relics as you can.
  • Split the collected relics in several monasteries:
  • Split your relics into several monasteries

  • Building monasteries and creating monks allows you to do three things: collect relics, heal your units and convert your enemy’s units.
  • Steal your enemy’s stored relics:

  • If you’re playing a team game and your civilization is a gold-dependent one, try to convince your allies to leave the relics in your monasteries. This is specially important for Turk players, to produce their elite troops, since they almost don’t have ‘trash’ (gold-free) units.
  • Flagged monasteries contains relics:

I hope that you enjoyed reading this as much as I did writing this and got an extra load of information.

Special thanks to iberico to help me with the chart. Dearly,
